FFXIV to run @ 1080p on PC and 720p on Ps3

by Kaden on Jun.21, 2010, under FFXI News

Hiromichi Tanaka, producer of Final Fantasy XIV, has confirmed that the game will indeed be caught running at 1080p. That is, however, for the PC only.

So what of the PS3 version of the game? He says that it is locked to run at 720p on Sony’s power console. “The PS3 version will be running in 720p in order to ensure performance remains high quality,” he explained, “but the PC version can go up to 1080p if your machine is powerful enough as you pointed out. We also support multiple displays, so players can use two or three displays to show that game.”

Aside from the game running on multiple displays, it will also be running in 3D for those of you that can either afford a new gfx card/monitor or a TV.

An Egg-hunter Is Hatched (03/18/2010)

by Kaden on Mar.20, 2010, under FFXI News

Hear ye, hear ye, kupo!
Drop everything you’re holding—unless it’s a basket of eggs—for the annual Egg Hunt Eggstravaganza event will soon commence!

It’s about this time of year that fun-loving adventurers are heard egg-sclaiming, “Gosh, it’s been a while since I last heard an egg pun.” And who are we moogles to deny them the pleasure, kupo? To answer the call, the trusty Mog House Management Union (MHMU) moogles will be taking to the streets with oodles of eggs cradled lovingly in our little arms, distributing them to egg-semplary adventurers worth their salt sprinkled atop a boiled egg.

And you, Master. When the event begg-ins in earnest, I don’t want to see you sulking over shriveled potted plants in the Mog House, but outside hunting eggs, eggs, and more eggs! Kupopopo!

“But I don’t know the first thing about egg-hunting,” you say? Well, such egg-scuses can be thrown out the window as egg-straneous, kupo! Because for this year’s event, fledgling adventurers are being egg-stensively egg-sercised by their resident moogles in the ways of the egg-hunter, and I had the privilegge—erhm…that was probably a mite forced—of being on location for one such lesson!

Lean closer to hear the details, kupo!

Event Schedule
The Egg Hunt event is set to begg-in on Thursday, March 25th, 2010 at 1:00am (PDT), and egg-spire on Tuesday, April 6th, 2010 at 1:00am (PDT).

Final Fantasy XI Level cap Extended to 99!

by Kaden on Feb.28, 2010, under FFXI News, Site News

Level Cap Increase

History is about to be made with the increase of the level cap in the March version update and beyond! The increase will take place in stages until the new maximum, level 99, has been reached.

Up until now, character strength has been limited to level 75, and additions to the game such as monsters, strategic content, and equipment had been designed to correspond to this.

However, with the game having reached a certain level of maturity and the bulk of existing notorious monsters having already fallen prey to tenacious bands of adventurers, the development team has deemed that the time is now ripe for the bar to be raised.
Level Cap Considerations
We are aware that players will inevitably feel concern over how in-game elements such as support jobs, experience camps, and merit points will be affected by this change. We would like to take a moment to explain the measures that are in the pipes to preserve game balance.

Support job abilities that are not expected to steal the limelight from main jobs as a result of the level cap increase will be allowed to come into play. Furthermore, there are plans to tweak certain job abilities, job traits, and magic spells on an ongoing basis in order to further accentuate the uniqueness of each job when used in a main role, as well as its versatility when playing a supporting role.

New camping grounds are scheduled to be added to cater to the anticipated rise in demand for experience parties. Furthermore, the redistribution of monsters in existing areas is also under consideration.

An increase in maximum upgrades is being considered for existing merit point skills and attributes. Preparations are also under way for the introduction of a new type of merit point for players who have reached the new level 99 summit.

New Add-on Series “Abyssea” Announced! (28/02/2010)

by Kaden on Feb.28, 2010, under FFXI News, Site News

An announcement was made today at VanaFest 2010 for “Abyssea,” an all-new three-part series of battle-oriented add-ons.

A parallel world existing beside Vana’diel, Abyssea is a land fraught with perils and home to savage hordes of heretofore unseen creatures. Ferocious, towering NMs, new-look HNMs―even the garden varieties will confound would-be challengers with their unfamiliar and formidable powers. These and a whole host more await hapless adventurers with open arms and voracious maws.

In Abyssea, concerns such as the over-population of battle areas and the need for large time investments will be a thing of the past. The development team is hard at work creating a world where parties can engage in rewarding battles with powerful foes and collect prized equipment with the least of fuss.
